Joys of Home Ownership

About an hour and a half ago we came home from dinner. It was raining, but not too hard or too bad. Just now, I looked outside and the (really big) tree in our front yard has sheared itself in half. Vertically. Half of the branches and stuff are still there, half are on the lawn, pointing to the street. Which, now that I think about it, is kind of lucky, that it didn't land on the house.

How does that even happen? I guess the tree was a little top-heavy, but I didn't think there was a lot of wind, lightning, heavy rain, or anything. It's like the tree got a divorce and took half of its branches on its way out.

So now, I guess I have to call ... someone... (whoever you call in situations like this) to clean up the tree and stuff and see if the rest of the tree can survive. If we even want it to.
